The Mauro-Sheridan Magnet School was renovated and expanded between 2007 and 2009 (architect: Kenneth Boroson). To tie the old and new buildings together, Bloomer Studio designed and fabricated an ornamented entrance arcade. The ornament includes a foliated trellis which transitions from wings to leaves, cast and fabricated foliated column capitals, sculptural eagles and the arches themselves. The archways repeat the gothic form used in the architecture of the original building. The two American eagles with spread wings, poised to take flight, were designed to offer inspiration to students, faculty and visitors of the school. The new entryway provides a welcoming, off-street transition space from inside to outside. Mauro-Sheridan School, New Haven |
