The Gateway Wings ceremoniously adorn the entry into the NoMa neighborhood in Washington, DC. Commissioned by DDOT and DCCAH, the two 50 foot high tree-like structures create a split-arch gateway over the New York Avenue bridge, shifted to follow the path of the railroad tracks below. Stylized aluminum leaves deployed over curved space-frames foliate the steel structures, “activating” the geometric shape from which the wings are born. At night,  carefully aimed and orchestrated light beams, brought to life by light designer Alexander Cooper, envelop the Wings in a subtly shifting movement of color.
